About me

I’m Coen del Valle, a postdoctoral researcher in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at The Open University. My main research interests are combinatorial aspects of finite group theory with a particular focus on numerical invariants such as base size and relational complexity.

I earned my PhD from the University of St Andrews in 2025 supervised by Professors Colva M. Roney-Dougal and Peter J. Cameron. My thesis, titled “All About That Base” can be found here. Before my PhD, I did Part III at the University of Cambridge and earned my BSc (Hons) at the University of Victoria.

On this webpage you will be able to find all of my publications, talks, and CV, among other things; just click the corresponding tab on the top!

Outside of my academic life, I train and compete in the niche Olympic sport “sprint kayaking”. I also enjoy hikes and feeding ducks and other waterfowl!
